global village collage

Marshall McLuahn created the phrase “Global Village.” What I think he meant by that statement is as time has passed people have become more dependent on technology, which has increased the advancement of our technology. Our technology is so advanced that we are able to know what is going on on the other side of the world as it happens. If you break up the phrase global village, you get global, which means world and village which is a small town; putting them together pretty much means that our world is almost like a small village, which means we are all connected some way, through technology, even though we are far apart. Through technology we can see what is going on in different countries, which keeps us connected and all involved.

I used all different types of technology that we use to gain knowledge of what is going on in the world. I used cell phones and telephones which we can literally talk to a person on the other side of the world. I used televisions, news castings and the newspaper, which we can read and hear about situations that are happening. Computers are probably one of the most reliable things to use to find out information. You can read the news; you can communicate with others using msn, youtube, wikipedia, facebook, myspace and Google. I have an image in the middle of my collage which is a small world surrounded by different coloured people. Why I put that image on was because how the people are connected to each other around the world even though the world is a large place to live on.

I used a few tools to create my collage. I used the magic wand tool, on numerous occasions, to take the white surroundings on the pictures off. I used the distort tool to distort some of the images. I rotated some of the images sideways. I used some of the artwork and effects on some of the photos. I also added a text box to the collage, to sum up the message of the middle image.

During this assignment I discovered what the actual meaning of global village is and what the concepts are. I figured out all the technology involved that makes up global village. What I discovered on photo shop was how to do different effects to the images, like adding a glow and different patterns to the images. This assignment really helped me to actually understand what global village really meant. Before all I heard of was the phrase global village but now I understand what it means.
